PGA Tour Champions Players

Through The Mitsubishi Electric Classic

April 29, 2025

Jerry Kelly won his13th PGA Tour Champions event at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic. On the final day, he beat Ernie Els who was leading after 36 holes of golf.

“Ernie is one of the best people out here, and I respect the heck out of him,” Kelly said about Els after the victory. “To go head to him with him, it's like Ernie, it's hard not to get caught up in just being with him, but I definitely wanted to win this one so it was nice to get it done.”

According to Kelly, he received help from his wife and his son. He noted that he was getting out of his posture, something his wife noticed.  That was a key, he felt.

In addition, he’d had some back problems.

“I went and saw a guy named Dr. Skaggs in St. Louis,” he explained.  It was Dr. Skaggs who was able to get him back out to play. “I had a couple herniated disks and both of them, the jelly was in the nerve canal. So, it wasn't fun but he really settled things down, let me know that I can go play, and it's just gotten better from there.”

Kelly gives Dr. Skaggs a lot of credit for his improved health situation.

“I’m feeling better about my swing than I have at other times of my career. I think I'm so close to swinging it as good as I've ever swung the golf club,” he said. “I had my A-game with my putter.”

Steve Stricker still leads in the Power Performance Rankings.  He is now 3.42 points ahead of Stewart Cink who is second.

Rankings are based on 12-month performances of Champions Tour players. When a tournament is played, the previous year’s results are dropped. Losing a high finish, dropping a low finish, adding a new high finish or a new low finish affects standings. Players must have a minimum number of points to be included in the rankings, but all players are tracked.
